Joy Amidst a Civil Rights Movement. How Black culture prevails in the darkest times of 2020
With developing cases of COVID -19 skyrocketing daily, Couple Kerry Anne & Micheal Gordon from Philadelphia decided to postpone their May 26,2020 wedding but never would the couple imagine their wedding being a part of one of the biggest movements of our time. Black culture has been and continues to be the prime example of “with all odds against you ,we will continue to strive and prosper”. This couple proved just that by tying the knot after joining Black Lives Matter Protest for the murder of George Floyd, one of many African American victims of police brutality.
Amongst many Black couples choosing to go forward with their weddings during the pandemic COVID-19 from Elaine Welteroth, the New York Times best-selling author, Project Runway judge, and former editor in chief of Teen Vogue getting married on her Brooklyn stoop, to Vashtie an artist, director, designer, party promoter and entrepreneur marrying designer Emil Boye. This shows how even in the midst of chaos the black community has always had the momentum to see the light even in the darkest of times.

During the 2020 Black Lives Matter Protest, there have been countless acts of police brutality amongst many peaceful protesters causing this to turn into one of the biggest riots the U.S has seen since the act of police brutality against Rodney King in 1991. Many black communities took this as an opportunity to re-educate themselves and their loved ones on the history of Black culture and coming together as a whole to keep heads high even when put down and falsely betrayed by countless media outlets. We’ve been able to witness signs during protest with powerful messages quoting “ Black lives matter '' to a young man holding up “when do I go from cute to dangerous”.
The Black community has shown the world during this time that we not only rise above the hate but when getting the message across to nations it will be done to enlighten so many who are suffering with PTSD amongst other mentally traumatizing events that have affected in the black community. Therapy has been the main topic of discussion during these trying times and below are a list of black therapist helping to heal people of color day by day.

As a whole the Black community has suffered through many years of racism that has led to countless acts of murder by the police force all over the US. We’ve lost hundreds of innocent Black people and this year hit the Black community harder than ever when witnessing Ahumad Aubrey , Breonna Taylor , and George Floyd’s murder due to the hate crime of racism. Having to witness these horrific losses in the Black community , we must find a way to bring peace back into our tribes. There is and will always be a light at the end of the tunnel and with the proper resources we the people will see this through.
The year 2020 has thrown curve balls at our society from COVID-19 to unfortunately having to witness countless acts of murder in the Black community due to police brutality.
