New York City-based Fashion Stylist and Personal shopper, Shana Charles releases her interpretation of the core wardrobe with her new line called N9NE. Launching in capsules, just in time for the pre-fall and fall shoppers, Charles begins with the Essentials Collection for women. This is a core wardrobe of staple pieces usually needed on a regular basis. Featured in the core line up is Charles’ take on the little black dress, a white button-down shirt and a chic black blazer, among other essentials. Although this is no new thing, Stylist launching capsule wardrobes, Charles’ take on the size and fit of a woman takes precedent over her competitors.

In 2017, Wardrobe.NYC was launched in the same fashion, by Australian Stylist and designer Duo Christine Centenera and Josh Joot. Their take on the essential wardrobe has since launched seven capsule collections and has raised millions in funding, according to an article in the Business of Fashion.

Similarly, N9NE provides a direct-to-consumer shopping experience of classic pieces that tailor to almost any type of shopper across style genres and price-points. While Charles’ own style and artistic direction has deep roots in Luxury Fashion and tailoring, she is cognizant of the everyday shopper who just wants great fitting clothing that offers variety.

According to Charles, variety was a key inspiration for the Essentials Collection.

“When I scroll through my social media accounts everyone looks the same. Spandex/elastane, cutouts, form fitting, just plain [and] revealing apparel - no variety. I wanted to bring something to the forefront that [didn’t] require [curvier] shaped individuals to feel subjected to overly revealing clothing or skin tight items just to feel sexy.”

The 9-piece collection is named after Charles’ lucky number 9, which also happens to be her birth month. Each piece in the Essentials collection is fashioned after her own style, which is calm, comfortable, and chic. Her take on the sweat pant, in heather grey, with tapered ankles, and a chic and classy v-plunge, black dress take classic essentials to an elevated place for every body type. When asked about size representation, which has been a huge buzz word over the last few years, Charles says: “For years being a size small was the only accepted size in runways, magazine editorials, [and] music videos. Identifying as a curvy woman, I would like my clothes to fit individuals of all shapes. Size representation shows variety and does not subject your brand to one subgroup.”

Rightly so, consumers have been leery of brands using “target” words to induce shopping habits, but N9NE truly has size-inclusion at heart. “It has become a huge marketing tactic for fashion brands to target curvy women by making curviness out to be an insecurity” Charles says, “ when in reality curvy individuals would like a brand that offers timelessness and quality, while still being fashionable.” N9NE’s debut is happening now online!
